Profile of Sheikh Ahmad Khattu
Sheikh Ahmed Khattu was the son of a rich man from Delhi. He was raised in a weaver's house. From there, a a Sufi Baba Jeeva (Ahmad Sheikh Ishaf Maghrabi) took him to Khattu. Therefore, he got the name Sheikh Ahmed Khattu. He did great service to Baba Jeeva. In 1398 AD he came to Patan (Gujarat) and settled at Sarkhej near Ahmedabad at the invitation of Sultan Muzaffar Shah I. His pupils wrote a book on him titled, Mirkat-ul-vusuul. It contains Gujari-couplets written by him. Sheikh Ahmed Khattu is unanimously considered the first poet of Gujari.
