Profile of Sufi Tabassum
Sufi Tabassum was born Sufi Ghulam Mustafa on August 4, 1899, in Amritsar. He was a poet of Urdu, Persian and Punjabi languages. Songs that he wrote for the Pakistan Army during the 1965 war brought Sufi Tabassum great fame. Kashmir was the homeland of the elders of Sufi Tabassum. His ancestors included his grandfather Sheikh Ahmad was Sufi Nanbai. When there was a famine in Kashmir, they like other Kashmiri families turned to Punjab and settled in Amritsar. Sufi Tabassum passed Matriculation from Church Mission High School, Amritsar and FA examination from Khalsa College, Amritsar. He got admission in the same college for B.A but at the same time he became friends with Allama Arshi Amritsar. He came to Lahore and got admission in FC College and in 1923 he did BA in Persian Honors. He did his MA in Persian from Islamia College, Lahore in 1924. Sufi Tabassum started his career at the Government of India Army Headquarters Medical Directorate. He remained at Amritsar till 1927. There he remained an English teacher in Government High School and Assistant District Inspector School. He came to Lahore in 1927 and became Lecturer Training College, Lecturer Persian Government College, President Department of Persian Government College, Lahore. In addition, he was the director of Khaneh-e-Farhang-e-Iran and the editor of the weekly Lail O Nahar. He also worked for Radio Pakistan Lahore and Writer Radio Pakistan. MA Punjabi University Oriental College, He also served as the president of Pakistan Arts Council and was also the Vice President of Iqbal Academy Pakistan.
