ایک صوفی نے فرمایا کہ
معرفت کی دو قسمیں ہیں: معرفتِ حقیقت اور معرفتِ ذات۔
معرفتِ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ بندہ خدا کی وحدانیت کو اس کے ان صفاتی مظاہر کے ذریعے پہچانے جو اس نے خود ظاہر فرمائے ہیں اور معرفتِ ذات یہ ہے کہ بندہ اس حقیقت کو جان لے کہ ذاتِ حق کی معرفت تک رسائی ممکن ہی نہیں کیوں کہ خدا کی ذات نہایت مستور اور اس کی ربوبیت کی تہہ تک رسائی ناممکن ہے۔
