Profile of Ameer Bakhsh Sabri
Amir Bakhsh Sabri is one of the noted Sufi poets of India. Apart from Naat and Manqabat, he has also written poetry on Ghagar, Chadar and other Sufi rituals. He was born in 1916 in Khorja Tehsil, Bulandshahr District. His father's name was Allah Bakhsh and his grandfather's name was Karim Bakhsh. His mother's name was Mahmooda Begum who was a disciple of Sabria. Both father and mother were virtuous. Amir Bakhsh Sabri migrated to Lahore on the establishment of Pakistan and settled in Mozang (Mozang Chongi, Lahore). He worked in the health department in Pakistan and retired from there. He pledged allegiance to Hazrat Syed Muhammad Hussain Sabri Khamoshi aka Pesh Imam Sahib (buried in Mian Sahib Cemetery, Lahore) who belonged to Hyderabad Deccan and Hazrat Shah Muhammad Hashim Hussaini Sabri was the caliph of Khamoshi. Amir Sabri became the first caliph of his murshid. He also sought corrections in his poems from his Murshid, who like it very much and encouraged the latter to write more. Thus, began the poetic journey of Amir Bakhsh Sabri, and soon he became the adornment of the poetic gatherings. His Natya Kalam has been published from Lahore under the title "Tajdar Arab", Faizan-e-Sabri, Aaina-e-Sabri, Aaina-e-Kaif and has received a lot of praise. He has also written Manqabat in honor of Khawaja Moinuddin Hassan Chishti and Hazrat Ali Ahmad Sabir Pak which was sung by Qawwals today and is still a regular in Sufi recitals.
