Profile of Latafat Warsi
Maulana Latafat Hussain Warsi was a Sufi poet of the Persian language. He became a disciple of Haji Waris Ali Shah in 1890. He was a resident of Sheikhpura, Munger District. A wandering dervish, he would roam and recite odes about Haji Waris Ali Shah, and preserve his writings. His only purpose in life was to be devoted unconditionally towards his elders and garner their blessings for the good of the world. Sometimes addressed as ‘Munshi’, Latafat Hussain Warsi was a religious scholar. He has composed 70 Qasidas (odes). In the following Qasida, he expresses his longing to undertake a pilgrimage of his elders. Aye Qibla-gah-e-iiman-e-man bar-man figan Aye Kaaba-e-iqaan-man gahe nazar bar-man figan Besides Qasida, he has also composed Mukhammas and Musaddas.
