Pandit Dindar Shah Warsi was born in a noble family in Malabar. He was a Brahmin of caste. His old name was Kishore Rai but people used to call him Pandit Ji. Pandit Ji used to use the pen name Shaiq and was adept in the Sanskrit language. His early education took place in the same language. He had also traveled to many countries. He was a wandering mendicant. It is said that Panditji was first a follower of the Hindu religion. Later he became a follower of Sufi traditions and became a follower of Haji Waris Ali Shah. It is said that Pandit Dindar Shah Warsi had completely changed after becoming a disciple of Haji Waris Ali Shah. Pandit Dindar Shah Warsi's name is very high in the list of poets in Devi District, Barabanki. He is a timeless poet of Sufi literature. In both prose and poetry his works Prem Leela, Baqa-e-Waris, Gulzar-e-Ishq, Tasrafat-e-Waris, Lauh-e-Darwesh, Bhajan-e-Shaiq, Takbir-e-Aashiqan, etc. became extremely famous.
