Raqim Shah Warsi's real name was Syed Inayat-ur-Rahman and Raqim was his pen-name. His ancestors lived in the town of Elch in the city of Shiraz, Iran, but emigrated due to the civil war and settled in Delhi. During the treason of 1857, his grandfather Maulana Qutb-ul-Khattab Syed Amrau Ali came to Farrukhabad from Delhi city and it was here that Raqim Warsi's grandfather, Syed Zuhoor Ali, was born. He was a follower of Hussain Bakhsh and used the alias Hafiz in poetry. Raqim Warsi's ancestors came to Kanpur in 1901 and lived all their life there. His father's name was Shafi-ur-Rahman Noorullah. Raqim Shah Warsi, after acquiring regular education, completed his learning of Tajweed and also learned the art of recitation. He obtained Sanad from Ahsan-ul-Madaris, Kanpur. Raqim Shah Warsi had earlier received the caliphate of Chishtia Nizamia and Naqshbandia Abulolaiya. He had a fondness for poetry since childhood. He passed away in Devi on May 28, 2017, and was taken to his ancestral home in Kanpur where he was buried.
