Baba Raza Shah Warsi's real name was Muhammad Hassan. He belonged to Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was born in 1859 in Sultanpur. His father was a follower of Haji Waris Ali Shah. He brought his son Raza Shah before Haji Waris Ali Shah to greet him and also took allegiance. Baba Raza Shah Warsi is said to have been engrossed in divine meditation in the jungles of Burma for seven years. It was in these forests that he met Haji Waris Ali Shah who ordered Raza to go to Calcutta. So, he came to Calcutta and was joined the police. Baba Raza Shah Warsi was of a humble temperament since childhood and remained single all his life. After retiring from his job, he remained in Calcutta and did not make any disciples. He lived a very simple life. The kurta and lungi were his special clothes which were yellow in color. Baba Raza Shah Warsi was loved by thousands of people. His devotees established Prem Koti, a registered society, in 1957 to amplify the teachings of the Warsiya order. Its purpose was to create a spirit of unity and solidarity in all religions. Baba Raza Shah Warsi's body of work consists of about a thousand poems and ghazals. It was published in 1965 under the name of Intikhab-e-Farmudat-e-Raza. Raza Shah Warsi passed away on April 17, 1954 at 7 am. His mausoleum in Calcutta is a sacred place for devotees.
