Profile of Aseer Lakhnavi
Asir Lucknowi was born in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh in 1800. His real name was Muzaffar Ali Khan. He learned Persian from his father and Arabic from his uncle Maulvi Syed Ali and the scholars of Farangi Mahal. Asir Lucknowi became a student of Mushafi in poetry and gradually became so skilled that he became a teacher himself. His students include well-known poets like Wasiti, Shauq Qidwai and Amir Minai. During the reign of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the Asir rose to prominence with the titles of Tadbir al-Dawla, Bahadur Jang and Mudabir-ul-Mulk and remained the Nawab’s special companion for eight or nine years. After the War of Independence of 1857, he moved to Rampur and died on 7 February 1882 in Lucknow. Asir's writings include six Diwans in Urdu, one Diwan in Persian, one Masnavi Durrat al-Taj and a paper on prosody.
