Born in 1717 AD in Mauja Chudani, Tehsil Jhajjar, District Rohtak (Haryana), Gharib Das was a Zamindar by profession. He would hold satsangs at his house in Mauja Chudani, and imparted his teachings from Grihastha only till the age of 61 in 1878 AD. He had two girls and four boys. Some believe that one of his sons succeeded him. While some people believe that his Gurmukh disciple Salot ji got his Gaddi. Mahatma Ji's clothes, turban, bed and other items of use are still present at his mausoleum in Mauja Chudani.
