Qadr Bilgrami was born in the month of Jumadil-Ukhra in 1249 AH in 1833 in the town of Bilgram. Born Syed Ghulam Hussain, Qadr Bilgrami was the son of Syed Khalf Ali, the grandson of Syed Karamat Ali and the great grandson of King Abdul Wahid Shahidi. Qadr's early education began in Arabic and Persian. Thanks to his intelligence, he soon mastered it. They were still studying when they got married. Therefore, he came to Lucknow from Balgram during the reign of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh. At that time, Lucknow was the epicenter of poetry. Somewhere or the other, daily poetry gatherings were held. Qadr Bilgrami was very intelligent from his childhood but at that time he was not fond of poetry. To learn the trades of the art of poetry, he also knelt before Muhammad Raza Barq Lakhnavi and Imdad Ali Bahr. Qadr also excelled in metaphysics and historiography. His best work on Prosody is “Qawaid-ul-Uruuz”, which is a testament to his prowess. He has also composed several chronograms. Qadr was selected as an employee of King's College. He also recited an ode in honor of the Hyderabad system. He fell ill in Hyderabad and died on 14 September 1884 in Lucknow on Sunday afternoon. Mir Khuda Bakhsh was buried in Talkora, Karbala.
